Worldwide Portable Machining is a company specialised in on-site machining at shipyards. The major advantages of machining on-site are time-savings, cost reduction and customer convenience. These benefits are achieved by the fact pumps, valves, pipes, propeller shafts, pipes, hinge points, etc. no longer having to be removed and transported to a workshop for repairs. This avoids the bother of disassembly, transport and the use of spare equipment, which in turn means a huge saving in time and costs. SHIPYARD MACHINING SERVICES WPM's main shipyard machining activities are line boring, honing, laser alignment, surface milling, (coordinated) tapping and drilling holes, creating or trimming key ways, machining axle journals, and flange facing. ENGINES, GEARBOX AND PROPELLER-SHAFT CASINGS LINE BORING Our line boring technique involves the mechanical processing of holes in such a manner that they are perfectly aligned. Accurate fitting is achieved during processing. Line boring of main / auxiliary engines, gearboxes and propeller-shaft casings up to 1,000mm in diameter are some of the services that we offer to the industry. FLANGE FACING MACHINES Our flange facing machines have the ability to machine flanges up to 7.2m in diameter. Flatness control is achieved by using laser equipment, and we offer coordinated drilling of up to 1/1,000° accuracy. We have different types of flange facing machines to handle flanges of various diameters. TAPER CUTTING EQUIPMENT Our taper cutting equipment is mainly used for machining rudders and propellers. We can adjust the conical support to every possible angle. We offer all types of conical supports depending on the job requirements. CUSTOMISED LINE BORING, TAPER-CUTTING AND FLANGE FACING MACHINES In certain cases it is not possible to use standard portable machines. However, this does not mean that the problem cannot be solved, because we have vast experience in developing, building and applying special line boring, taper-cutting and flange facing machines for such specific purposes. We have even created machines for a single purpose. Examining the possibilities with regards to developing a special machine may be worthwhile. We apply the following principle: if the customer needs a solution to a specific problem, we will take on the challenge of tackling and solving the problem in co-operation with the user.
