NAVIM Recommends PANOLIN Lubricants for Use With its Marine EquipmentPANOLIN
Navalimpianti Tecnimpianti Group (NAVIM) now recommends PANOLIN's environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs) for use with its marine equipment. NAVIM has always been committed to safeguarding the environment and to achieving sustainable development in compliance with local laws and international regulations by promoting environmentally conscious design, as well as using renewable and cost effective technologies.
The new Vessel General Permit (VGP 2013) issued by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that, starting from 19 December, every ship operator navigating in or entering US waters must use EALs in all applications with oil-to-sea interface. As a consequence, the use of ecological lubricants has to be considered as a methodology of prevention and reduction of an environmental impact generated by an eventual lack of attention of the operator or an accidental lubricant spill due to mechanical failure during normal operations.
According to VGP 2013 a wide range of equipments are affected by accidental discharges from oil-to-sea interfaces, and within the NAVIM product range, the following equipments may be involved in the new VGP 2013:
- shell and bow doors
- davits, winches and cranes
- remote control valve systems
- loading and cargo ramps / platforms
- pool covers
