E.D.I.T. - Marine Control, Measurement and Protection Systems

Energy Development International Technology (E.D.I.T.) plans, installs, supports and services electronic and pneumatic devices, and automation and control systems, in vessels and industrial groups in Greece and abroad.

SHIP CONTROL, MEASUREMENT AND PROTECTION SYSTEMS

E.D.I.T. is specialised in the installation and maintenance of:

  • Systems of control and measurement of pressure, temperature, level, rotations, voltage, etc.
  • Control systems of diesel engines, turbines, and ship manoeuvring
  • Automated systems for control and protection of generators, diesel engines, turbines
  • Systems of control, measurement and protection for loading and unloading tanks of liquids and gases
  • Systems of measuring explosive and toxic gases
  • Automatic control systems for inactive gas protection
  • Supervisory systems of regulation and protection of boilers
  • Electronic and pneumatic systems for control and regulation of pressure, rotations and temperature
  • Inert gas systems
  • ODME systems
  • Gas ballast systems
  • XTS-W bearing condition monitoring systems (as Gnomon Marine's authorised installer)
  • Alpha lubricator systems
  • CorrTran corrosion-protection transmitters for online monitoring
  • Accurate oil-moisture analysis systems
  • Fire extinguishing systems

SEPARATOR ALARM SYSTEM

For economical and safe operation of a gasoline separator or petrol separator, a separator alarm system is used to detect the gasoline layer thickness and / or top level of the gasoline in the separator.

This feature is also a required item according to the EN 858-1:2002 standard. Apart from designations and general construction principles, this European and international standard also defines the functional requirements for separator installations.

In keeping with the standard, gasoline separator installations have to be equipped with an autonomous alarm system. This alarm system is approved for use in hazardous areas, zone 0.

In due time before reaching the maximum storage volume (oil layer thickness) in the separator, a modern alarm system in keeping with EN 858-1 indicates by an acoustic and optical signal that the gasoline accumulated has to be removed. If it has to be assumed that an overflow will occur in the separator, a second probe will release an acoustic or optical warning signal in due time before reaching the highest level.

The alarm system is a complete system consisting of several components, including sensors, a control unit, housing and a mounting set. The block diagram indicates the basic arrangement of the individual components. Depending on the application, three sets of warning systems are differentiated:

  • Single-channel, storage volume or oil-layer thickness detection only
  • Single-channel, overflow detection only
  • Dual-channel, oil-layer thickness and overflow detection

MULTIVARIABLE CORROSION MONITORING

The CorrTran multivariable transmitter will monitor general corrosion, localised corrosion (pitting), and conductivity through a 4mA to 20mA signal and HART protocol in real time. The corrosion rate or a pitting factor is configured as the primary variable using a two-wire 4mA to 20mA output.

The multivariable transmitter is available in a three-electrode configuration with a wide selection of probe types and electrode materials.

MARINE TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND SPARE PARTS

E.D.I.T. provides immediate technical support and spare parts worldwide, covering the technical needs of its customers safely and with the highest quality.

To achieve this objective, our technicians are trained in each new system and have at their disposal the most modern systems for maintenance, repair, planning and manufacture.

The company and its technicians have undertaken and completed very important tasks on commercial and passenger ships, both in Greece and abroad. E.D.I.T. has carried out important tasks in ships which transport solid, liquid and gas cargos, as well as in naval vessels. We have also collaborated with shipyards and Greek industries.

CERTIFIED MARINE TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES

E.D.I.T. cooperates with certified companies; one such is Gnomon Marine. For more information about their products and services, please click their website link, below.

E.D.I.T. operates as Gnomon Marine's technical department, and has successfully performed a number of installations of AMOT'S XTS-W bearing wear monitoring system worldwide.

Another certified company that E.D.I.T. cooperates is UTECO (see their website below). Below you can see some of the companies that UTECO represents in Greece:

  • Mitsubishi (frequency inverters for ac motors, programmable logic controllers, Man Machine Interface [MMI] and SCADA software)
  • Jumo (measurement and control)
  • Nivelco (level switches, level transmitters, loop indicators, pressure transmitters and temperature indicators or transmitters)
  • OMC (pneumatic controllers, transmitters, temperature and pressure recorders)
  • Foxboro (pressure and differential transmitters, liquid level, density, liquid interface and flow transmitters)
  • Eurotron (electronic, thermal and pressure calibrators, portable combustion flue gas analysers and infrared thermometers)
