Hull Stress Monitoring on Latvian Shipping Company’s Chemical Tankers

05 December 2007 16:10

R Rouvari Oy has recently introduced services in Russian for its Russian and Russian-speaking customers. The new language services proved especially useful during the recent delivery of the HULLMOS hull stress monitoring system HULLMOS for four handysize product and chemical tankers during the beginning of 2007.

The systems, delivered to Latvian Shipping Company, consisted of four long-based LBSG sensors, an accelerometer and necessary software. The system was delivered according to Lloyd's Register ShipRight(Hss-4) class notation and rules for Hull Surveillance Systems.

One special feature of the hull stress monitoring project was the exceptionally large integration requirements of the spec. The hull stress monitoring system was integrated with VDR, loading calculator, DGPS system, gyrocompass and speed log. Extensive integration with other systems provided synergy in operation – possibility for additional reference when hull monitoring system is set according to loading calculator and additional safety on hull monitoring data storage with VDR.

Geographical dimensions for the hull monitoring data are given by latitude/longitude, speed and direction information provided by other systems. Hull stress monitoring systems were installed to enhance safe operation with this size of the vessels on northern waters. Additionally the data collected by the system will be stored for the later analysis. HULLMOS project was finalised in close co-operation with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea.
