Chugoku Paints - Marine Coatings

Chugoku Marine Paints Ltd (CMP) specialises in the supply of marine coatings for the shipping industry. Coatings include CERABOND, an ultra heat resistant ceramic shop primer, SEA GRANDPRIX, a tin-free antifouling with market leading performance, UMEGUARD, a multipurpose epoxy tolerant to damp and reduced surface preparation standards, NOVA, a light coloured epoxy ballast tank coating and SWAN, a water-based finish coat.

With almost a century of experience in servicing the marine industry, CMP can offer coatings for every area of a vessel, whether it is for new buildings or for maintenance of ships in service. By developing reliable, customer friendly and cost reducing technology, we have grown to supply 20% of new buildings and a similar percentage of maintenance coatings to shipping fleets throughout the world. CMP has a comprehensive global supply network, with factories or offices in 37 countries around the world.

COATINGS FOR NEW BUILDINGS

CMP's experience includes supplying 50% of coatings for all new buildings in Japan and we also a high market share in other parts of the world. From this experience, we understand the requirements of both ship owners and ship builders. CMP have developed a range of coatings, called CHUGOKU INNOVATIVE SHIP coating system (CIS), which offer both ship builder and ship operator, the highest performance available over shop primer. These products are also very beneficial in increasing the productivity of the ship builder, due to the simplicity and functionality of the various coatings. For instance:

  • CERABOND – ultra heat resistant shop primer, greatly reduces burn damage and secondary preparation. It also increases welding and cutting speeds compared to standard zinc silicate primers
  • BANNOH 500AC – this multipurpose epoxy can be applied to all external vessel areas to simplify the painting procedures. It offers superb anticorrosive and anti-abrasion performance for reduced future maintenance costs
  • SEAGRANDPRIX – market leading antifouling performance from the latest generation tin-free antifouling. The patented silyl technology offers performance as high as current self-polishing tin-based technology
  • CERABEST – this ultra heat resistant primer for accommodation and superstructure stops burn damage and the resultant extra surface preparation. The integrity of the coatings are improved
  • SWAN – water-based, environmentally friendly finish coat for internal areas.
  • NOVA – a light coloured, epoxy ballast tank coatings which offers as good performance as traditional, high quality coal tar epoxy coatings
  • Bulk supply system – innovative supply and application systems to minimise waste and labour requirements

COATINGS FOR MAINTENANCE

CMP's worldwide supply network can reliably deliver maintenance paints for on-board use and for dry-dockings. Innovative maintenance products include:

  • UMEGUARD MT – moisture tolerant epoxy technology, for use on damp surfaces, such as with water blasting equipment and in ballast water tanks. Innovative mechanism to displace and absorb water and stabilise rust
  • UMEGUARD SX – a surface tolerant epoxy for use as a multipurpose primer on all ship areas. It is very cost effective for use at drydocking, on decks and in holds. It can also be used as a finish coat
  • SEAFLO series – high performance tin-based self polishing antifouling for up to five year performance
  • NOVA 5000 – 100% solids epoxy technology for use in cargo oil tanks and ballast water tanks. Minimises bacterial attack and pitting of steel. It can be used to fill existing pits
  • NOVA 5000 BARRIER - 100% solids moisture tolerant epoxy coating specially developed for crew maintenance in BWT. Because of its high viscosity (thick like mayonnaise) it is easy to apply a thick and firm barrier coat on the spot repair areas. CMP claims that a repair with NOVA 5000 BARRIER will last up to five times longer than an equivalent repair with a standard epoxy coating
  • UMEGUARD SUPER-H - a high solid abrasion resistant epoxy coating specially developed for Cargo Holds who carry tough cargoes like coal and ore. Because of its extreme hardness (PH 5) and good abrasion resistance properties it is possible to extend the period between major refurbishments up to 50%. After a major refurbishment you can reload the cargo after four days
