Most engineers are familiar with the importance of regular checks on diesel and gas, LNG, engine crankshafts and cylinder liners. The old dial gauge crankshaft alignment checks were time-consuming, unpleasant, dirty and inaccurate, but by using Prisma Teknik's electronic deflection indicator DI-5 series, the task is much easier and accuracy is improved. This series also optionally comes with an ovality kit to check the cylinder liner ovality and compare wear.
The deflection indicator DI-5 series is used by hundreds of engineers in over 90 countries worldwide, and boasts acurracy, accessibility and safety benefits over indicator clocks.
Prisma Teknik's electronic gauge makes crankshaft alignment checks simpler and more convenient compared to the old dial gauges, as they don't require the engine to be opened to take a reading. Simply fit the transducer between the crankshaft webs at any of the positions A-E, and the result is shown for each position on the exterior display.
The DI-5C stores the results which can then be uploaded on to your computer by a USB connection. The deflection evaluation software gives the crankshaft alignments for all cylinders, outlined with red and green status indications for easy evaluation and comparison.
The Bohman DEC-Tester detects operational problems such as piston ring failures, excessive liner wear and leaking valves for easy troubleshooting. The tester is connected to the valve at the top of the cylinder and fills it with air, and gives an immediate, accurate answer as to the condition of the cylinder.
The device is also useful when looking at wear and failure trends, as the measurements can be uploaded to a computer and compared for continuous follow-up.
The DEC-Tester is specifically designed for each cylinder diameter, and can be used on both the main and auxiliary engines on the same ship. Cylinder size ranges from an auxiliary bore diameter of 160mm, to a main engine cylinder size of 460mm.
The ovality kit has principally been designed to measure cylinder-liner wear and ovality, however the device can also be modified to take measurements from various applications according to your own requirements.
Simply take five measurements at each level of the liner, as well as at the top of the cylinder, and upload this information to your computer for analysis. The software can produce graphs and charts so you can check the ovality over time.
The standard kit contains equipment to measure cylinder liners with diameters of 180mm to 600mm.
