Environmental Protection Engineering - Oil-Water Separators, Wastewater Treatment Plants and Desalination Systems

Environmental Protection Engineering (EPE) is the leading Greek manufacturer of bilge oil-water separators, sewage wastewater treatment plants, and desalination systems.

Bilge oil-water separator

The Poseidon Evo bilge oil-water separator is a unique system providing excellent technical performance, simple use and value for money. It is type approved in accordance with Lloyds Register's resolution MEPC 107(49).

The unit contains two stages, the coalescer and the emulsion breaking unit. The coalescer works on a continuous mode and only when the oil detection monitor detects that the effluent of the coalescer oil content is higher then 14ppm does the emulsion braking unit begins its operation. The operation of the unit requires only minimum inspection time and ensures a long operating life.

Main advantages:

  • Fully automatic unattended operation
  • Self-cleaning through backwash
  • Minimum maintenance
  • No chemicals required
  • Effluent oil content under 5ppm under all test conditions
  • Easy installation and reliable operation
  • Minimum volume footprint
  • Low maintenance cost
  • Low operating cost
  • Improved fluid quality

Poseidon Evo is available in various sizes: 1m³/h, 2.5m³/h, 5m³/h, 7.5m³/h and 10m³/h.

Sewage wastewater treatment plants

EPE is the only company in Greece and one of the few worldwide to have received both EC Marine Equipment Directive (Wheelmark) from the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and type approval certification from Lloyd's Register for sewage treatment plants, according to the latest IMO resolution, MEPC.159(55).

Membrane bioreactor for on-board wastewater treatment

EPE developed an innovative membrane bioreactor (MBR) system for on-board wastewater treatment. A unique combination of grey (galley / kitchen water) and black (sewage) wastewater treatment reduces the overall energy consumption and maximizes the effluent quality in terms of COD, BOD and nitrogen removal. Moreover the combined treatment of grey and black water is more compact than most competitive treatment systems in the market.

This new wastewater treatment system can be continuously operated on-board a wide range of vessels varying from cruise liners to cargo and military vessels.

The Triton Evo MBR system for the treatment of wastewater produced on-board ships consists of:

  • Pretreatment equipment
  • Two buffer tanks (optional)
  • Three bioreactors: for the treatment of the black water, grey water and their mixture
  • Cross flow ultra-filtration membranes
  • On-line monitoring (optional)

The newly developed MBR system can provide wastewater treatment to a huge variety of vessels, from small cargo and military vessels for 15 persons up to cruise liners with 3,000 passengers.

Standard sizes for the TRITON EVO are: 15, 40, 200, 300, 550 and 1,000.

Seawater or brackish water desalination system

EPE's Alios Evo reverse osmosis system for the desalination of the sea or brackish water can produce reliable fresh water on-board ships and offshore facilities.

Standard features:

  • Seawater feed pump
  • Pre-treatment fine filters
  • High pressure pump made by A316 stainless steel
  • High rejection efficiency spiral-wound membrane modules
  • Robust and long lasting pressure vessels
  • On-line TDS measurement
  • Control panel with PLC for fully automatic operation
  • Fresh water flowmeter
  • Automatic clean in place procedure

The Alois Evo desalination system has been designed for fully automatic operation. Its compact design makes it suitable for both retrofit and new-fit in small spaces.

Customizable desalination units

Alois Evo desalination units can be designed and constructed with variable features in order to meet the customer requirements. The units can be installed on small sailing and motor yachts, cargo and military vessels, large cruise liners, as well as offshore applications.

Dedicated to its customers, EPE SA is in position to understand each customer's needs and develop for them the most cost effective, efficient and reliable products and services, exceeding their corporate expectations.
