ABB Marine offers complete electrical power systems for all types of vessels including system design, engineering, system studies, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, start-up and after sales service.

ABB's range of marine electrical systems includes electric power generators, AC motors for electric power distribution, distribution switchboards, power distribution transformers and integrated control systems.

ELECTRIC POWER GENERATION

ABB electric power generators are available for turbine and diesel engine prime movers through a wide power range and for low or medium voltage generation. The electrical design is optimised for high efficiency with low power losses and heat dissipation.

AC generators are offered in several designs and ratings, typically:

• Power: 1MVA to 70MVA at 50Hz / 60Hz
• Voltage: 400V to 15kV

ELECTRIC POWER DISTRIBUTION - AC MOTORS

The AC motor program consists of high efficient motors, covering all shaft heights up to 1,120mm in horizontal and vertical executions.

AC motors are offered in several designs and ratings, typically:

• Power: 140kW to 3,000kW at 50Hz; 200hp to 4,500hp at 60Hz
• Voltage: 380V to 11.5kV
• Design: horizontal and vertical - open and totally enclosed enclosures equipped with water-to-air or air-to-air heat exchanger; direct on-line and frequency converter design
• Applications: propellers, pumps, fans, blowers, compressors and conveyors

VSD – VARIABLE SPEED DRIVE / FREQUENCY CONVERTERS

The VSD program covers both low voltage and medium voltage. For low voltage the type is ACS 600, and for medium voltage the type is ACS 6000. Direct Torque Control (DTC) is a revolutionary motor control method for AC Drives which allows accurate control of both motor speed and torque without pulse encoder feedback from the motor shaft.

POWER AND DISTRIBUTION TRANSFORMERS

ABB Marine's product range is based on several designs, such as:

• Dry type impregnated, open wound
• Cast resin
• RESIBLOC®, wound / resin insulation

ABB transformers range from 50kV to 30MVA, with primary operating voltages through 46kV and secondary operating voltages through 15kV and are available in air-cooled AN /AF and water-cooled AF / AW execution with indoor and outdoor enclosure.

POWER AND DISTRIBUTION INTEGRATED CONTROL SYSTEMS

ABB multi function control systems:

• REM 545 rotating machine terminal is designed specially as a main protective system of medium voltage generator-power plants as well as synchronous and asynchronous motors
• REF 543 feeder terminal is designed specially to different kinds of feeders like transformers, lines, transfer feeders and capacitor banks
• INSUM control system is designed specially for integration in low voltage switchboards and motor control center - for process control and energy distribution
