Ezy-Fit Marine - Marine Grade Hydraulic Cylinders

Ezy-Fit Marine is an Australian ISO9001-2008 accredited company, established in 1993 by managing director Terry Kerin, which specialises in manufacturing marine grade hydraulic cylinders for the shipping, naval and offshore industries. Ezy-Fit's hydraulic cylinders are custom designed and manufactured to Class for ships, rigs, submersibles and underwater machinery.

Our hydraulic cylinders are manufactured taking into account the design requirements of the specific application and the diverse environmental conditions experienced in the most rigorous and difficult operating conditions our planet has to offer. Ezy-Fit has experienced continuous growth and success since it was founded and now employs 70 staff at its Salisbury South site.

Hydraulic cylinders for harsh environments

Due to varied conditions, the marine environment is certainly the most difficult for hydraulic equipment. This type of pressure on the equipment increases the likelihood of corrosion and premature failure. It is therefore extremely important to design hydraulic cylinders that can perform in extreme environments.

At Ezy-Fit we take many precautions during the design and manufacture stages to ensure that the life of our hydraulic cylinders is not compromised when used in marine environments. Our marine hydraulic cylinders are used in steering / rudder control, ride fins, hoistable decks / ramps, cranes, bow / stern doors, personnel lifts, clam shell systems and much more.

We design cylinders for all types of marine environments, including those experienced in applications for vessels such as:

  • Naval vessels
  • Offshore rigs and support vessels
  • Subsea vessels
  • Passenger vessels such as ocean liners and fast ferries
  • Commercial vessels such as bulk carriers, car carriers and tankers
  • Ship-mounted or dockside cranes
  • Mega yachts and other luxury vessels

Ultra high-strength cylinders for the marine industry

Ezy-Fit also designs and manufactures ultra high-strength cylinders for applications such as ride control systems. This high strength design takes into account the extreme slam load induced pressures encountered when ride fins exit and then re-enter the water under extremely rough conditions.

The pressure can sometimes be well over 10,000PSI so a variety of high-strength steels and stainless-steels with great tensile and impact strength are used. These materials, combined with a focus on engineering and safety, result in ride control cylinders that are far superior to other designs commonly used by many Ride Control System manufacturers. Ezy-Fit ride control cylinders are used on many of the world's most radically designed and fastest naval vessels Main Ride Fin and Interceptor Bars.

Design and manufacture

Ezy-Fit has a wealth of experience in the design and manufacturing of cylinders for the marine industry. The vast majority of our cylinders are built to class requirements with designs approved by classification societies, such as:

  • Germanischer Lloyd
  • Lloyds Register of Shipping
  • Det Norske Veritas
  • American Bureau of Shipping
  • Bureau Veritas

We also have several accreditations from various Class such as Germanischer Lloyd Welding Shop Approval, ABS Type Approval, and many GL, ABS and DNV approved welding procedures.

The design and production team at Ezy-Fit use the latest CAD / CAM technology. Using this technology our design team can produce cylinders of all shapes and sizes, from the smallest to the largest, for all types of shipping, subsea and offshore work.

Working with exotic materials such as duplex and super duplex stainless steel, and high strength alloys such as Hastelloy and Inconel is normal for us. Many of our designs have become part of US naval vessels such as the Littoral Combat Ships and Joint High Speed Vessels.

We also create low temperature designs and severe service designs. We are involved in the research and development of new technologies to solve complex engineering problems that have arisen as a result of emerging new requirements.
