Henning Frokjaer - Teak Decking and Handrails

Ship and house building have been the principal areas of expertise for Henning Frøkjær since the company was founded in 1984. We are among the world's leading companies when it comes to installing and repairing teak decks and other teak products, particularly on cruise ships and luxury yachts.

The company has both an office and a shipbuilding factory in Esbjerg, Denmark, and a regional office in Monfalcone, Italy. We have experience working at shipyards all over the world, with clients in Italy, Japan, Germany and Finland, amongst others.

TEAK SHIP DECKS AND HANDRAILS

Henning Frøkjær has been renowned in the cruise ship business for decades. This recognition has come primarily from our outstanding quality of teak decking, which is far superior to other look-a-like but structurally inferior 'teak' products.

Henning Frøkjær's teakwood products are very well-suited to ship decks and handrails, due to their hardness, resistance to wind, weather and seawater, and good working properties. Our teakwood decking is beautiful and easy to maintain, as well as comfortable to walk on in both warm and cool weather.

Henning Frøkjær's teakwood comes from a state-regulated forestry in Burma (Myanmar), where we inspect the teak ourselves to ensure the highest quality.

SOLID-GLUED TEAK DECK

The special characteristics of the HF solid-glued 22mm teak deck make it sought after by ship architects. First a base is applied to the ship's steel deck in order to even it out, and then the patented teak units are glued on. While the glue dries, the floor is held down by sandbags, and the caulking compound is then applied. Finally, the whole floor is polished with sandpaper for a perfect result.

Unlike the traditional 50mm teak deck, this system offers considerable weight reduction, and is less time-consuming and therefore cheaper. It also requires less teak.

We also install traditional 35mm and 50mm teak decks. In addition to all its other positive properties, teakwood is noise-reducing, since the wood absorbs the vibrations from the ship and the activities on deck. These natural noise-reducing properties can of course be strengthened with an extra soundproofing base before the deck is glued on.

THE TEAK SHIP-DECKING MARKET LEADER

Our principal duty is to meet our customers' specific requirements with regard to design, quality, price and regulation time. We demonstrate great respect and care for our teak, which is one of the most valuable woods in the world, and we always inspect our own teak deliveries in the Far East, to ensure the highest product-quality. We have therefore become the market leader in the field of teak ship-decking.

Our customers also benefit from:

  • Custom-made fittings
  • Beautiful appearance, which signals luxury to the smallest detail
  • Dedicated technicians, who are determined to achieve perfect results

HIGH-QUALITY TEAK DECKING

Teak decks are used on cruise ships to give a traditional finished appearance; besides the beautiful looks, the deck is comfortable to stand on in both warm and cold conditions, and the surface lasts for decades.

Our teak has to meet the requirements of First European Quality (FEQ), and Special Selected (SS), planking wood for cruise vessels, according to the grading rules of the Burma Forest department.
