Marine Interior Systems - Ship Joining, Interior Insulation and Furnishing

Marine Interior Systems (MIS), is a leading full-service joiner and insulation contractor for the shipbuilding and offshore oil sectors, operating primarily in the continental United States.

MIS is owned by our parent company, Branton Enterprises, which is a privately-held corporation, established in 1970 and headquartered in Harahan, Louisiana. MIS has office locations in Covington, New Orleans and Pascagoula. Our sister company, Insulations, whose resources we share, has offices in Houston, Baton Rouge and Shreveport. Our combined field workforce comes to 700 personnel.

SHIP JOINER WORK

Over the past few years MIS has completed joiner work on more than 200 vessels and living quarters, all to yard, owner, and regulatory-agency requirements. MIS performs work on cargo vessels, passenger vessels, military vessels and offshore living-quarters, having extensive experience outfitting interiors in accordance with SOLAS and MODU regulations for various flag states as classed by DNV, LRS, ABS, BV, etc.

We also offer complete interior turnkey packages, including HVAC, electrical and piping.

Recently completed projects include complete joiner and insulation packages on:

  • Three Rowan Tarzan class jack-ups
  • 14 tidewater offshore supply vessels
  • 16 Hornbeck offshore supply vessels
  • 70,000ft² casino vessel L'Auberge du Lac

FULL-SERVICE SHIP-INTERIOR ENGINEERING

Full-service interior-package ship engineering is provided by MIS. Typical engineering packages include insulation arrangements and details; deck covering arrangements and details; joiner panel and ceiling arrangements and details; joiner door arrangements and details; and furniture and furnishings arrangements and details.

All of the above are provided in accordance with, and include all documentation required by, the applicable regulatory or classification agencies and societies.

SHIP ACCOMMODATION AND MACHINERY INSULATION

All insulation required for ship accommodation and machinery spaces is provided. This includes structural fire protection, thermal and acoustic insulation, water pipes, HVAC pipes, exhaust pipes and muffler insulation.

SOFT-CORE AND HARD-CORE WALL AND CEILING PANELS

Typical ship installations are either soft-core or hard-core wall or ceiling panels. Soft-core panels are comprised of mineral wool sandwiched between metal sheets and faced with PVC foils. Hard-core panels comprise of vermiculite cores faced with high-pressure plastic laminate.

These linings all comply with all offshore requirements, including SOLAS, MODU, USCG, ABS, Lloyds and DNV. A variety of other linings can also be provided in accordance with customers' requests.

SOUND-ISOLATING FLOATING FLOORS

Floating floors are another contributor to the reduction of sound in accommodation spaces. They are constructed of heavy gage steel attached to mineral wool. When combined with soft-core walls and ceilings they provide a total enclosure for sound isolation.

LAMINATE MARINE FURNITURE

MIS is the US representative for Maritime Mobler (MM), a respected Norwegian manufacturer of marine furnishings since 1967. MM manufactures solid alder and plastic laminate-clad furniture with a SOLAS-approved fire-retardant plywood core.

MIS also provides metal, fiberglass and soft furnishings according to customer preferences.

SHIP-ACCOMMODATION MODULES

MIS provides turnkey ship-accommodation modules, which include structural steelwork, HVAC, piping electrical and joiner outfitting, and are built to meet the most stringent classification requirements. Multiple designs and footprints are available and others can be custom designed to meet customer requirements.

AWARD-WINNING CONSTRUCTION SAFETY

Safety is of the utmost importance to MIS, and our record substantiates that fact. Our sister company, Insulations, whose safety department we share, have received one of the most prestigious construction safety awards possible – the Business Roundtable-Construction Industry Safety Excellence (CISE) award – on multiple occasions.

This award is given to recognize the diligent efforts of companies who have created world-class construction site safety programs and achieved exemplary results in their commitment to an injury-free workplace.
