APC Power Conversion has been awarded a multi-million euro contract to supply electric propulsion systems for the next two MSC Cruises vessels: MSC Fantasia and MSC Serenata to be delivered respectively in 2008 and 2009.
These new cruise ships, to be built at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in St Nazaire, will be among the largest ever ordered in the world and will be much larger than MSC Musica and MSC Orchestra ships which are currently under construction, and also fitted with APC's electric propulsion systems, due to be delivered by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in 2006 and 2007.
These new liners, 333m long and 38m wide, will carry up to 3,887 passengers and more than 1,300 crew members. They will each be equipped with two synchronous motors, 20.2MW each supplied through synchroconverters. APC’s scope of supply will also include the propulsion transformers, advanced digital propulsion control and a remote control system.
André COLIN, Director of the Marine Division at APC Power Conversion France said: "MSC and Chantiers de l'Atlantique are key customers for APC and we are delighted to have been selected to equip these two new cruise ships. Thus, MSC will have eight recent cruise liners fitted with APC Power Conversion’s electric propulsion systems and we hope that it will continue! As usual, our teams will strive to satisfy MSC and Chantiers de l’Atlantique at every stage of the project, from engineering studies to commissioning and services.
APC’s motto is 'customised technology for customer success'. We thank MSC and Chantiers de l’Atlantique for giving us, once more, the opportunity to take up the challenge and confirm our leading position as a supplier of electric propulsion and control systems."
