ALSTOM Power Conversion’s new electric propulsion solution is based on high torque density induction motors supplied through the new ALSPA MV7000 medium voltage PWM press-pack IGBT converters and an advanced controller: a major step in electric propulsion and a high performance, cost-effective and durable solution.
The HTD induction motors are fully suited to marine applications and bring significant advantages in terms of efficiency (above 97%), low noise and vibration levels and torque performance. The press-pack IGBT technology provides a superior set of benefits compared to other technologies and helps to design more efficient converters with higher powers than previously possible. The ALSPA MV7000 converters are compact, robust, fuseless and offer a very high efficiency.
Serge Saint-Macaire, Marine Sales Director within ALSTOM Power Conversion France said: "Our continuous investment in R&D and 25 years of experience in electric propulsion allow us to provide our customers with the most appropriate power and propulsion architectures. This major step in electric propulsion and its three main assets: high performance, cost-effectiveness and durability necessarily meet shipowners' and shipyards' current and future demands and will very shortly become the standard solution."
