ASIRobicon - Diesel Electric Propulsion Systems

ASIRobicon Ltd is a market leading electrical systems integration company that has specialised in the manufacture and supply of diesel electric propulsion systems for ships for over 30 years. Complete electrical packages are designed, engineered and integrated in house at ASIRobicon Ltd, using products primarily supplied from with the ASIRobicon group of companies.

COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS FOR THE MARINE INDUSTRY

Packages may solely consist of a power system, or may be the whole ship electrical package ranging from the supply of diesel generator sets and switchboards, through to the propulsion equipment (transformers, variable speed drives (VSD), motors and thruster/propellers). In its Single Source Vendor (SSV) role, ASIRobicon can also integrate Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems and alarm and monitoring systems along with cargo handling and ballasting systems.

VARIABLE SPEED DRIVE TECHNOLOGY

At the core of any ASIRobicon Ltd system is a VSD, either AC or DC, with a power between 1.5kW and 30MW, low and medium voltage, water or air-cooled. The groups VSD technology has been separately developed by five of the ASIRobicon business units worldwide over a forty-year period. This has given a wide range of VFD types suitable for all applications and includes a special water-cooled marine version; the AQUAMarine drive.

AQUAMarine VARIABLE SPEED DRIVE

The AQUAMarine VSD is low height, compact, modular, rugged and is cooled via the ship's centralised cooling water ringmain. There is also an option to use the ship's seawater ringmain or even air cool the VSD should water not be available in the VSD compartment. As standard it comprises a diode front end with resistor braking, but an option is available for an active front end. All AQUAMarine VSD's are available full four quadrant operation for propulsion and braking forward and reverse.

Whilst ASIRobicon Ltd can offer own make packages, it can also offer equipment supplied from strategic partners, both for cost saving and technical advantages. This makes ASIRobicon a very cost competitive option for the shipyard.

ASIRobicon has supplied thousands of VSD units worldwide for all applications in both general and marine industries where uses include propulsion, thrusters, winches, cranes, pumps and compressors.

As part of an SSV package ASIRobicon Ltd can supply and commission the whole ships heavy electrical package; from the alternators to the propulsion motors and assist with system design, harmonic analysis, fault level calculation, coordination studies and power system calculations etc.
