Diesel engine maintenance machines specialist Chris-Marine is prepared to release its updated version of the Liner Diameter Measuring instrument (LDM) at the leading international maritime trade fair SMM 2014 on 8 September to 12 September.

With a liner costing $50,000 in a large 12 cylinder engine, a rise of the wear rate from 0.05mm/1,000h to 0.2mm/1,000h will make the average yearly replacement cost of liners rise from $26,000 to $105,000; this does not take into account the cost of labour, transport and other requried spares.

The LDM can now help ship-owners save thousands of dollars by measuring the liners without removing the cylinder cover or the exhaust valve and in under an hour per unit by opening the inspection hatch and removing the indicator cock on the units that are measured.
