Piening Propellers, part of Piening Propulsion Systems, specialises in the design and manufacture of ship's propulsion systems including fixed propellers up to more than 5000mm in diameter, bow thrusters, cross-channelled agitator propellers and controllable pitch propellers. Piening also supplies complete shaft systems with propeller shafts up to a length of more than 12 meters and rudder parts.

Established in 1928, Otto Piening has over 70 years' experience in the production of ship's propellers their products can be found in many different types of ships worldwide. Luxury yachts that require silent and smooth sailing are powered by Piening Propellers, as are fast speed yachts, rescue boats and patrol boats that are aiming for maximum efficiency. For example, in the case of patrol boats, our hydrodynamic engineers can achieve propeller peripheral speeds of 50m/sec without any difficulty.

Piening also offers special services including quick repair in the case of vibration problems. In the course of measurement runs, our engineers will ascertain precisely the causes of vibration and noise and thus facilitate the quickest, low-cost remedy.

CONTROLLABLE PITCH PROPELLERS

The latest products in the Piening portfolio are controllable pitch propeller systems of the KM and KH series. These propellers offer a performance capacity range from 400 through 12.000 KW with as few as seven construction sizes.

Piening controllable pitch propellers are based on ongoing development of systems which have proven their superiority in operation for decades and which have brought up to the latest state-of-the-art technical standards. Evaluation and experience reform over 100,000 operating hours provide PMT systems with maximum safety and service-friendliness.

The remote controls used with Piening propellers are based on the most modern process technology including digital transmission. The use of a double-cable layout considerably reduces installation cost. Optionally, remote control operations or a combiner can be used to adjust the pitch.

The systems have been constructed according to the rules of all the major classification societies.

THE KM AND KH SERIES

Piening KM and KH series controllable pitch propellers are hydraulically controlled systems which operate almost completely free of oil leakage. The servo-cylinders for blade adaptation are either located in the propeller head (KM model) or on the coupling flange of the propeller shaft (KM model). A compact tank unit with electrically driven pumps and all necessary hydraulic components supplies the system with control fluid. For the axial oil distribution box, a gear with offset shafts is required.

With only seven sizes, the Piening KM and KH series of controllable pitch propellers cover a performance capacity range of up to 10,000 kW.

THE G3 AND G4 SERIES

Piening G3 and G4 propeller systems incorporate split hubs with three (G3 model) or four (G4 model) blades. The servocylinder for blade adjustment is located either in the reduction gearbox or on the propeller shaft coupling flange. Hydraulic equipment at the gearbox or a compact tank unit with electrical pumps and all necessary hydraulic components supplies the system with control fluid. For the axial oil distribution box, a gear with offset shafts is required.

With only nine sizes, the Piening controllable pitch propellers cover a performance capacity range of up to 3,000 kW.
