RCM Marine - Vibration Measurement for Condition Monitoring

RCM Marine specialises in developing and implementing innovative solutions for the marine industry. Experts in vibration monitoring, the company currently provides a number of bespoke solutions for monitoring marine machinery, based on advanced communications technology.

In 2006, RCM Marine introduced the first real-time marine remote condition monitoring system capable of integration with industry standard satellite-enabled asset tracking.

The company provides solutions for:

  • Marine machinery condition monitoring
  • Special investigations into structural vibration problems
  • Marine technical operation

EXCEPTION-BASED VIBRATION MONITORING

Mariner, the ultimate predictive maintenance solution, sets a new benchmark standard in exception-based vibration monitoring. Developed for the marine industry by marine experts, it can be used to collect data quickly and report faults for the majority of auxiliary machinery, without any need for training. Each Mariner system is tailored to an individual ship so that you can collect and analyse information with ease and without the need for specialist knowledge.

Mariner meets class requirements and is designed to enhance predictive maintenance by allowing quick and accurate data collection, easy data transfer and simple presentation of information to ship’s staff.

VESSEL-SPECIFIC DATABASE

Mariner is provided with a dedicated vessel-specific database, leaving you free to walk around, monitor auxiliary machinery and download data direct to your computer. It provides intelligent alarm indication and automatic fault diagnosis reporting, together with easy-to-access trending logs and graphical analysis, making it the ideal marine condition monitoring solution.

Class surveyors will find Mariner’s information precise and clear. When you need to send information ashore or for pre-drydock reporting, it’s easy and inexpensive to do so, due to the intelligent way data is handled by the Mariner system.

MARINE AUXILARY MACHINERY MONITORING

Mariner can be used for monitoring most marine auxiliary machinery and is ideally suited for the following vessels:

  • Container ships
  • Oil-product / LPG / LNG tankers
  • Ro-Ro
  • Bulk carriers
  • Cruise ships
  • Ferries

In addition to its powerful monitoring capabilities, the system can also be configured to troubleshoot and fully integrate with the MPM planned maintenance system.

PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMMES

The effectiveness of Mariner can be realised quickly through enabling you to achieve a quality predictive maintenance programme that can be implemented and operated without any need for training. Furthermore, significant cost-savings are achieved by the ability of Mariner to recognise trends and initiate appropriate warnings. This ensures that you are able to illustrate clearly to class surveyors, machinery operating within specified limits - thus reducing time and cost spent on physical inspection.

CONDITION MONITORING FOR MARINE MACHINERY

RCM Voyager is the first system to provide real time, exception-based condition monitoring for marine machinery combined with cutting-edge satellite communications. This means that not only is the ship’s staff informed of the actual diagnosis of a developing fault but the same coded message is simultaneously transmitted via a simple D+ satellite link to Purplefinder® and can be displayed on the web-based vessel tracking system.

The Purplefinder® system can also automatically initiate email and / or SMS alerts to the vessel’s management, in addition to providing visual fault indication on a fleet map. Trend data can be automatically sent by email attachment either periodically and/or in an alarm situation.

CUTTING-EDGE SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS

Machinery is monitored 24/7 by the Voyager hardware, thereby significantly improving reliability over computer-based monitoring systems. This also means that there is no requirement for staff training.

Voyager is primarily designed to monitor operational and safety critical machinery, such as propulsion systems and cargo machinery. There is, however, no practical limit to the number of machines monitored by a single alarm panel. Datasheets for machine-specific applications of the Voyager system can be downloaded from our websites.
