RENK

RENK - Marine Gears for Main Propulsion, On-Board Power Generation, Bearings and Couplings

RENK provides high-quality products for power transmission engineering, including vehicle transmissions, industrial and marine gear units, slide bearings, couplings and test systems.

RENK has three production shops in Germany which provide a range of products for marine propulsion. The Augsburg plant produces marine gears for main propulsion in fast vessels, luxury yachts and marine and coastguard ships as well as gear units and couplings for on-board power generation. Marine gears for the main propulsion of merchant vessels are manufactured at the Rheine plant. The Hannover plant makes slide bearings, elastic couplings and special-purpose couplings / clutches.

MARINE GEARS FOR MAIN PROPULSION OF FAST VESSELS AND LUXURY YACHTS

RENK's Augsburg plant produces reduction gears for drive by one or two high-speed diesel engines on propellers or water jets and equipment with multi-disk clutches or shiftable fluid couplings, auxiliary drives (PTO), or low-speed propulsion systems (PTI). In addition to this are double-stage reduction gear units for the gas turbine drives, of CODAG or COGAG design (combination of two gas turbines), and planetary gear units for co-axial drives. All gears are of lightweight design with low-noise toothing available.

MARINE GEAR SYSTEMS FOR THE MAIN PROPULSION OF MARINE AND COASTGUARD SHIPS

RENK's Augsburg plant produces extremely low-noise combined marine main gear units for the propulsion of gas turbines and/or diesel engines (CODAG and/or CODOG) in the entire power range, including clutches, all required auxiliary PTOs and digital, programmable control. These are also available in CODELAG configuration (combined electric and gas turbine).

The plant also manufactures reduction gear units with axial offset or of co-axial design (planetary or diesel drives), with reversing stage upon request, for gas turbine or diesel propulsion without power restriction.

GEAR UNITS AND COUPLINGS FOR POWER GENERATION ON-BOARD SHIPS

RENK's Augsburg plant produces RCF (RENK Constant Frequency) drive and variable speed gears up to 4,000kW as PTO of two-stroke diesel engines, combined with crankshaft gear units upon request. PTO tunnel gear units for performances higher than 4,000kW can optionally be combined with main shaft separating clutches of up to 25,000kW.

MARINE GEARS FOR THE MAIN PROPULSION OF MERCHANT VESSELS

RENK's Rheine plant produces single reduction gear units for drive by one engine and double marine gear units for dual engine drives with gear unit centre distances of 560mm to 5,500mm. Also available are single and two-stage single and twin marine gear units for diesel electric propulsion systems of up to 35,000kW.

All gear units come with mounted multi-disc clutches and PTO, PTI, and PTH for reduced propeller speed.

0THER GEAR UNITS FOR MERCHANT VESSELS

  • Shaft tunnel gear units as main engine PTO up to a maximum of 4,000kW
  • Shaft tunnel gear units with propeller shaft couplings for complete PTO / PTH / PTI propulsion systems for low-speed operation with reduced or variable propeller speed
  • Any type of special gear units for dredges as main and auxiliary gear units

MARINE DRIVE COUPLINGS

RENK produces curved tooth couplings™ as well as diaphragm, steel lamella and safety couplings for all drive applications in the construction of ships as well as in the offshore range for all speeds.

SLIDE BEARINGS, ELASTIC COUPLINGS AND SPECIAL-PURPOSE COUPLINGS / CLUTCHES FOR MARINE APPLICATIONS

RENK Hannover is a recognised world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of white metal (babbitt) slide bearings. Their depth of technical experience extends all the way back to 1883. Today, they cater for every kind of marine, industrial and offshore application with their extensive series of bearing designs - standard and special.

RENK Hannover operate an approved quality assurance system to ISO 9001 and they meet the requirements of AQAP 110.

Vessels which use Hannover bearings include:

  • Submarines
  • Aircraft carriers
  • Destroyers
  • Frigates
  • Corvettes
  • Mine sweepers
  • Fleet oilers
  • Fleet auxiliary craft
  • Ferries
  • Passenger ships
  • Tankers
