Tranter - Gasketed and Welded Marine Heat Exchangers

Tranter offers an extensive range of gasketed and welded heat exchangers specially designed for marine applications. This, combined with its extensive experience and solid technical expertise within marine, offshore, HVAC and industrial applications, makes it a world leader. Tranter’s mission is to help customers achieve the optimum solution with regard to performance efficiency, payback and energy conservation.

Marine plate heat exchangers

Tranter's marine plate heat exchangers (PHEs) can fulfil any capacity requirement. They are efficient, reliable, compact and easy to service and maintain. For many decades, its PHEs have proven to be the perfect solution for various closed-circuit cooling systems at sea, for applications such as oil and freshwater coolers, and oil and fuel heaters. They are also frequently found in other applications on-board vessels, such as tap-water production systems and HVAC systems.

Gasketed plate heat exchangers

Tranter's gasketed PHEs consist of few parts and are very compact. The plates have a unique design, which enables exact matching for any application. Performance adjustments can easily be made by adding or removing plates.

It is also possible to achieve both symmetrical and asymmetrical flow and full turbulence in each exchanger, thus maximizing heat transfer efficiency and minimizing fouling. Plates are provided in stainless steel and titanium as standard, but are available in other materials.

Comparison to shell and tube heat exchangers

A PHE from Tranter is only about one-third of the size and one-sixth of the weight of other shell and tube heat exchangers of comparable performance. It also:

  • Is 50% more efficient
  • Is 90% more compact
  • Has three to five times higher K-values
  • Has a unique turbulent flow design
  • Has a closer temperature approach - as low as 1K
  • Requires far less material, meaning less use of exotic alloys or titanium

Welded heat exchangers

Tranter produces compact heat exchangers for extreme temperatures, pressures and special designs that exceed gasket limitations. They offer high performance, are compact and require minimal maintenance. They can handle liquids, gases and two-phase mixtures at low and high temperatures.

Shell and plate heat exchangers and prime-surface heat exchanger banks

Tranter's Supermax shell and plate heat exchanger and Platecoil prime-surface heat exchanger banks are designed for optimum efficiency in compact packages. Supermax heat exchangers consistently outperform shell and tube deck heaters, while Platecoil banks make pipe coil obsolete for bulk cargo heating banks.

Both products offer:

  • Much smaller footprint
  • Lighter weight
  • Easier installation
  • Removable heat exchange surfaces for effective cleaning
  • Faster heating or cooling with less energy fluid
  • Turbulent flow for better scaling resistance and greater reliability
  • Less steel, lower purchase price, shorter lead time and less expensive delivery

Additional products offered by Tranter are our Ultramax, Maxchanger and Spiral heat exchangers.
