Chemring Marine has unveiled its new Pains Wessex Manoverboard MK8 and Buoysmoke MK8 lifebuoy markers at the SMM trade show in Germany.

Chemring Marine, the world’s leading supplier of marine distress signals to commercial and leisure marine markets, had several distributors exhibiting at the Hamburg event on 7-10 September 2010.

Hygrapha, a Pains Wessex distributor from Germany, displayed the new products on its stand B5 / 461 and received strong interest from show visitors.

Chemring Marine managing director Justine Heeley attended the influential trade show along with German-based sales manager Holger Muegge, and secured orders from new and existing distributors and customers.

The new manoverboard and buoysmoke products will be initially available through Pains Wessex’s European distributors before being sold in other global markets. They both replace previous MOB 360 and Buoysmoke MK2 models.

The updated products boast a number of important features and benefits, including:

  • Sturdy, robust and far exceeds SOLAS requirements
  • Drop-tested to 60m (SOLAS only requires 30m and MOB 360 was 50m)
  • Reed-switched lights, not water-activated
  • Universal two-piece stainless steel mounting bracket makes fixing to inaccessible bridge wings easier
  • Retaining clip aids security and helps prevent accidental loss of the signal in very bad weather conditions
  • Ideal for large tankers and oil and gas rigs

Product manager Keith Bradford says: “The new Pains Wessex Manoverboard MK8 day and night lifebuoy marker produces fifteen minutes of dense orange smoke and a self-activated lighting system that far exceeds SOLAS requirements for light output of two candela and two hours duration.

“The new Pains Wessex Buoysmoke MK8 is identical, except that it does not feature the lighting system, so is an orange smoke daytime marker only.”

Chemring Marine, based in Fareham, UK, is part of the Chemring Group and is the world’s leading supplier of SOLAS, MED and USCG-approved marine distress signals.
