RKI Analytical Instruments - Ship Gas Detectors and Monitors

RIKEN FINE has been a world leader in marine gas-detection services for decades. Our wide range of portable and fixed gas-detectors are used worldwide onboard many ships. International certifications from Europe, Asia and the Americas are standard (including ATEX, CE, MED, CSA, HK, JML, JMIO, NK, KR, KOSHA, DNV and OCIMF).

SHIP GAS DETECTION AND GAS MEASUREMENT

Gas detection and gas measurement are especially important in the shipping business because enclosed, watertight spaces like engine rooms, cargo spaces or tanks are likely to be separated from fresh air for long periods, and thus may contain gases with danger of explosion or toxic gases and vapours.

MARINE OXYGEN DEFICIENCY MONITORING

Potential oxygen deficiencies in enclosed spaces have to be prevented too. Oxygen deficiencies aboard ships usually emerge from chemical oxygen enrichment (rust), organic oxygen consumption (e.g., grain transportation), or gas displacement by other gases (inert gases aboard tankers).

ONBOARD EXPLOSIVE AND TOXIC GAS DETECTION

Explosive and toxic gases, on the other hand, emerge from metabolic bacteria (in ballast tanks), and explosive hydrocarbon vapours among fuels (in the engine room). Moreover, mixtures of gas hazards are possible, and thus continuous and simultaneous gas detection has to be carried out during onboard working. SOLAS and IMO created special guidelines for these problems.

GX-2001 FOUR-GAS MARINE MONITOR

The GX-2001 is the smallest marine four-gas monitor worldwide, capable of measuring either methane (CH4), or hydrocarbons (HC), hydrogen sulphide (H²S), carbon monoxide (CO), and oxygen (O²), simultaneously. It indicates emergencies in many different ways (buzzer, LEDs and vibration), when passing the upper and lower threshold values.

This way, many Reeders have introduced extended safety standards for their ships, in contrast to the widespread gas-detection tubes which are only suitable for point by point measurement and are often mocked as an 'estimation device.'

Weighing only 170g, the GX-2001 can be carried very easily. It can be used by the chief officer, the chief engineer (when working below deck), his assistant and the crew (in the engine room, or when entering tanks and other enclosed spaces), and when loading and unloading goods like grain, steel goods or scrap metal, which all involve very different gas hazards.

RX-415 PORTABLE TWO-GAS MONITOR

The RX-415 is a portable two-gas monitor to detect combustible gases or methane and oxygen in air or inert gases. The NDIR sensor provides an accurate detection and convince with a long lifetime. The automatic ranging offers a very easy handling of this device at frequently changing gas concentrations. The measuring values are displayed in volume percentage or LEL percentage.

It has a 'peak' function: the highest value detected in measurement will be stored. The large digital display shows all gas concentrations simultaneously. In low light the backlight of the display turns on automatically. The batteries allow continuous operation for up to 40 hours. The RX-415 has a two-year warranty.

RX-515 PORTABLE GAS DETECTOR

The RX-515 portable CH4, O², CO and CO² gas detector has an infrared (NDIR) type sensor, a galvanic cell-type sensor and an electro-chemical cell type sensor. These sensors provide accurate detection of CH4, O², CO and CO² levels, even in N² and other inert environments.

The measuring ranges are 0% to 100% LEL, 70% to 100% volume for CH4, 0% to 25% volume for O², 0ppm to 1,000ppm for CO and 0% to 20% volume for CO².

The RX-515's explosion-proof design makes it suitable for any environment.

FIXED ANALYSER SYSTEMS

Fixed analyser systems for emission control (NOx, SO² and CO), combustion optimisation (CO and O2), and explosion protection (LEL / CH4), are also available.

These systems can be custom tailored to fulfil all requirements. Both single-point and multi-scanning systems (i.e. ballast water tanks), have been installed in ships.
