Hyde Marine continues its ongoing, no-cost webinar series on 4 September with a special educational topic entitled "Ballast Water Treatment System Installations: Lessons Learned" aimed at helping shipowners and operators properly select, install and maintain ballast water treatment (BWT) systems.

In 2004, the IMO adopted the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments (BWMC), which, when ratified, will require operators to conduct ballast water exchange to meet concentration-based ballast water discharge standards at ports with ballast tanks 99.99% free of living organisms and pathogens.

The webinar will cover Hyde Marine’s extensive experience in the BWT marketplace and explore potential pitfalls associated with new build and retrofit projects, as well as better prepare themselves and their companies for the challenges they might face as the industry works to address the potential influx of BWT system orders and installations.

For attendee convenience, the complimentary, one-hour webinar will be offered in two different sessions at specific times. Technical directors and managers, shipowners, operators, naval architects and port and harbor authorities, engineering, and installation managers are invited to select either Session 1 or 2.

Key takeaways for attendees will include:

  • Considerations when selecting a BWTS
  • Installation do’s and don’ts
  • Common engineering mistakes
  • Planning for trouble-free operation
  • Maintenance planning and requirements
