Sembcorp to Build Brazilian Yard

05 February 2010

Sembcorp Marine is planning to build a new shipyard in Brazil to tap into the country's growing offshore oil and gas exploration and production market.

Sembcorp said the yard will be built along 1.6km of coastline in the Municipal of Aracruz, which is a hub for offshore vessel owners and service companies.

The Singapore-based company’s subsidiary Jurong Shipyard will undertake the project in Espirito Santo state, north of Rio de Janeiro.

The shipyard will be capable of constructing drillships, semi-submersible drilling rigs and offshore support vessels, the company said.

The Brazilian facility will also be able to install topside and deck modules on to the hulls of floating production storage and offloading vessels.
