Italy to Build Offshore Terminal

Italy is planning to build a $1.8bn offshore terminal, 14km off its coast, which will link the Northern Adriatic and the TEN-T Network.

The terminal will transfer containers from box vessels to 112teu barges and the cargoe will be taken to a 90ha container terminal in Porto Marghera on Italy's mainland for delivery via land.

The proposed terminal is expected to save five days travelling time and decrease traffic on European railways and roads, and reduce 108kg of CO2 emissions in every container.
