ABB has secured an order to provide power and propulsion systems for a cruise ship being built for German cruise operator, TUI Cruises, at STX Europe yard in Turku, Finland.
As per the deal, ABB will deliver electrical and propulsion systems including medium voltage generators, main switchboards, propulsion transformers, propulsion drives, propulsion motors, thruster motors and ring main units for power distribution.
The equipment is expected increase the vessels onboard energy efficiency, provide a reliable power supply for all equipment and systems and optimise fuel consumption.
ABB head of process automation division Veli-Matti Reinikkala said,"Our Marine business provides the industry's most complete offering of systems and services to help any large vessel operate at top levels of energy efficiency, while providing the solid electrical infrastructure that ensures reliable operation of all onboard systems."
Under the deal, the company will also provide engineering, project management and commissioning services.
ABB will commence the deliveries of the equipment package in the spring of 2013 and commissioning is scheduled to start in early 2014.
STX Finland had signed a deal with TUI Cruises in September last year for design and construction of a 2,500-passenger, 97,000t cruise ship.
The Cruise ship will be 294m long featuring 1,250 staterooms, 2,500 lower beds for passengers and accomodate a crew of about 1,000 persons.
