Deals this week: Castor Marine, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri)


Netherlands-based IT services and maritime communications solutions provider Castor Marine has received a multi-year contract from Wagenborg Shipping for the supply of more than 40 new VSAT systems for its Wagenborg vessel fleet.

The arrangement will see Castor provide Inmarsat Fleetbroadband as back-up for the VSAT service, as well as IT support for the vessel's LAN infrastructure and a complete solution for the entire Wagenborg fleet, which includes installation and onboard support services.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has announced a partnership with China-based online and mobile commerce company Alibaba Group for the provision of customised cruise industry products for the Chinese domestic market.

The collaboration will combine the cruise line's expertise in vacation and cruise offerings with Alibaba's knowledge of China's customer base and its unique consumer ecosystem.

Alibaba customers will receive the company’s services at sea across Norwegian Cruise Line's China-based and global fleet under the new deal.

The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) and South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of big data and technological innovation within the maritime sector.

The two companies will jointly work on evaluating the feasibility of various new long-term initiatives, along with the implementation of big data technology to increase revenues and improve overall client satisfaction.
