DP World London Gateway has unveiled its plan to open a new off-dock empty container storage yard at the Port of London, UK.

The five-acre facility will be situated at the port’s seventhberth and will be operated and managed by Solent Stevedores, which currently offers various bulk and general cargo handling and storage services at the UK ports of Southampton, Jersey, Immingham and London.

Solent Stevedores will also use the proposed facility to provide various other related services.

Construction of the yard is due to begin by next month, and the site's commissioning is scheduled to take place by the first quarter of next year.

DP World London Gateway port commercial head James Leeson said: “DP World has an established relationship with Solent Stevedores in Southampton and is delighted that the company is supporting our growth with this new facility at London Gateway.

“The DP World London Gateway logistics hub is growing fast; the network of services operating out of the port is now truly global, with access available into or out of the port from all of the world’s major economic centres.

"In turn, there is strong demand for ancillary logistics services providers to set up bases here, while interest in distribution centres on the Logistics Park remains extremely high.”

The company further noted that the planned yard would complement its Port of London logistics centre, which is currently under construction.
