MAN Diesel & Turbo's marine LNG fuel-gas-system manufacturer MAN Cryo has been contracted by Turkey's Sefine Shipyard to provide an LNG fuel-gas supply system (FGSS).

The FGSS will be installed on a double-ended RoPax ferry, designed by LMG Marin for Italian ship-owner Caronte & Tourist, and is planned to include auxiliary equipment in the form of an LNG vaporiser, pressure build-up unit, bunker station and heat exchanger.

MAN Cryo's system will also feature a 150m³ vacuum-insulated storage tank, and will supply gas to the ferry's three dual-fuel propulsion engines. It is scheduled to be delivered by November this year.

The Caronte & Tourist ferry is currently under construction at Sefine Shipyard, and will measure 133m in length and 21.5m in width, with the capacity to accommodate 1,500 passengers, as well as up to 290 cars across two vehicle decks.

The vessel will mainly be in operation on the Italian strait of Messina, between Villa San Giovanni and the city of Messina.

MAN Diesel & Turbo previously won a deal to provide main engines for a new ice-breaking, supply-and-research vessel to be operated by Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) in November last year.

Generating 9,600KW of power each, the engines are able to serve in a demanding environment, including temperatures down to -30 degrees, as well as cope with extended mission times.
