The MSC Poesia in dry dock.
The Poesia is the ninth ship in the fleet.
The ship is the third in the Musica-class.

One of the newest additions to the fleet of MSC Cruises is the MSC Poesia. The 89,600t vessel, which is able to carry a maximum of 3,013 passengers, was completed in March 2008 at the Aker St Nazaire yard in France.

The Poesia is the ninth ship in the fleet and the third in the Musica-class, with its preceding sister ships MSC Musica and MSC Orchestra launched in June 2006 and May 2007 respectively.

After the Poesia’s pre-inaugural 13-night cruise from Dover to Venice, it will operate from Venice for the summer season (Mediterranean and Adriatic cruises).

In 2010 the MSC Magnifica will enter service.

SHIP FACILITIES

The ship has 13 passenger decks, housing 1,275 cabins. 809 outside cabins feature private balconies (three equipped for disabled passengers).

In addition, there are 173 outside cabins with no balcony and 275 inside cabins. The ship has 987 crew members.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

The ship is 293.8m long and has a beam of 32.2m. The vessel has a gross tonnage of 89,600t and can make a maximum of 23kt at fast cruising speed. The ship is fully stabilised and has been designed for operation in the calm cruising areas of the Mediterranean or the Caribbean.

The hull of the ship has been coated with Intersleek 900, a patented fluoropolymer foul release coating from International Paint Ltd designed to prevent build-up of marine detritus on the hull during operations. The Intersleek 900 system on the MSC Poesia was applied over Intersleek 717 Link Coat, a product especially designed to be applied to SPC anti-foulings in good condition. The ship also uses Scanship waste disposal systems.

STATEROOMS

There are three types of Stateroom: the suite with balcony (25m²), outside cabin with balcony (17.8²) and the inside cabin (14 m²). The suite has its own bathtub while the others have showers. They all have queen-sized beds which can be converted into twin beds if required; air conditioning; and a safe.

“The ship has 13 passenger decks, housing 1,275 cabins.”

Each stateroom also has a mini-bar for guest use. Laptops can be rented for the trip with internet connection charged as extra. Each cabin also has a flat screen LCD television. Some cabins feature bunk beds and sofa beds to accommodate larger groups of guests.

LUXURY FACILITIES

In the same vein as its two sister ships, the Poesia has a three-deck atrium with long curved staircases leading to a bar and coffee house on the lowest level along with various galleries and boutiques.

The vessel offers a full service health centre with a gymnasium and spa. The spa includes a beauty salon and solarium; two saunas and two steam rooms. Aerobic and yoga classes and thalassotherapy are also available. There is also a jogging track, two swimming pools and four Jacuzzis.

Mini-golf is available along with a tennis court; a disco; a casino; eight bars and cafes; and a 1,125-seat theatre. There is also a library and cinema along with a card room; cigar room; internet cafe and art gallery. Children are catered for with a playroom and a teen club.
