With our brand NAstra® iron silicate slag (also called copper slag due to its origin from copper smelting process ) as expendable abrasive and other synthetic, mineral and metallic blast cleaning abrasives for the surface preparation in the sector of corrosion protection / prevention, Brümmer Strahlmittel GmbH & Co. KG, Hamburg – Germany, Est. 1921 is acting since decades as manufacturer and distributor of high quality blast cleaning abrasives and high pressure- water-jet cutting media.

Our product range consists of abrasives which are suitable for application on surfaces of almost all kinds. Beside the slag abrasive NAstra® we also offer AbraCor® RG – garnet as mineral abrasive suitable for the multiple use as well as the metallic abrasives steel shot and grit as well as glass beads.

The factory has its own railway connection and is situated at logistically perfect location in immediate vicinity of motorways to all directions and of the seaport of Hamburg. A private facility for bulk delivery by ship is available. In our branch of trade Brümmer Strahlmittel GmbH & Co. KG is counted among the leading manufacturers and sellers.

Expendable abrasive

NAstra®is an iron silicate slag abrasive, synthetic mineral abrasive. A vitreous amorphous slag. During the manufacture of the abrasive no crushing or grinding procedures are included. Therefore, the single abrasive particle is not broken up and retains its extreme hardness and tenacity which is the case for all particle sizes. All constituents are present in oxidised form, predominantly as bonded silicate.

We have the expertise to arrange shipments for either containers, bulk or break bulk for our export business.
Our factory is situated in immediate vicinity of all major motorways and the seaport of Hamburg.
A private facility for bulk/ break bulk shipments is available.
Transport by railcar can also be arranged.

Other features include:

  • Dust reduced
  • Chemically indifferent and water-insoluble
  • No free metallic constituents
  • Electrically non-conductive
  • Mohs hardness greater than 7
  • No free silica
  • Pursuant manufactured to DIN EN ISO 11126 – 3
  • Origin: AURUBIS AG (former NORDDEUTSCHE AFFINERIE AG, Hamburg)

Recycable abrasive

AbraCor® RG is a natural mineral garnet abrasive, type almandite, suitable for multiple uses. It is a non-hazardous garnet blast-cleaning abrasive for application on almost all types of surfaces as well as an optimum cutting media for high-pressure water-jet cutting facilities. Features include:

  • Angular/ cubic particle shape
  • Chemically indifferent and water- insoluble
  • No free metallic constituents
  • Electrically non-conductive
  • Low dust generation. Mohs Hardness: greater than 7.5
  • No free silica

Steel shot and grit

Our high carbon steel shot and grit is a metallic blast-cleaning abrasive for the multiple use in closed cycles / in rotating-wheel plants for descaling, derusting and deburring of surfaces prior to subsequent coating/painting. It has a hardness of 40 to 50 HRC. No free silica. Steel shot is a cast, round, metallic blast-cleaning abrasive which is separated by screening to precisely defined particle sizes.

Fused aluminium oxide abrasive

AbraCor® fused aluminium oxide abrasive is a synthetic electric corundum with a sharp-edged shape. Its production is subjected to accurate control according to ISO 9000 and continuous examination. AbraCor® absorbs no water. Fines, superfines and any foreign matters are purposeful withdrawn. Other features include:

  • Dust reduced
  • Chemically indifferent and water-insoluble
  • No free metallic constituents
  • Electrically non-conductive
  • Typical radioactive elements not detectable by gamma ray spectrometer
  • Mohs hardness greater than 9
  • No free silica

AbraCor® is obtained by melting from bauxite/ alumina, crushing and sieving in particle size distribution required.

Glass beads

Our AbraVer® glass beads are manufactured in Europe in accordance with ISO 9002. They are synthetic mineral blasting media, made of glass incorporating spherical shaped particles. Other features include:

  • Chemically indifferent and water-insoluble
  • No free metallic constituents
  • Electrically non-conductive
  • Typical radioactive elements not detectable
  • Mohs hardness greater than 6

AbraVer® is molten in the form of spheres from crushed sodium silicate glass. The manufacture of AbraVer® is subjected to most
strictly production control.
