French shipping line Corsica Linea is set to install ABB’s power compensation solution Dynacomp in its three ferries to cut emissions while docked in the Port of Marseille, France.

The Dynacomp installation will enable Paglia Orba, Jean Nicoli and Pascal Paoli ferries to use electricity from the grid instead of running their diesel-fuelled auxiliary engines, which will help to meet the power requirements when berthed.

The new technology will also enable the three vessels to reduce noise pollution.

Currently, the ABB’s shore connection technology is being installed at Paglia Orba. The remaining two ships are scheduled to incorporate the new technology by 2020.

All three modified ships will be able to use 11kV electricity from the local grid to meet the required power demand while docked at the port.

The project involves the supply and installation of electrical, mechanical and automation systems on board ships to facilitate shore power connection.

As part of the contract, ABB will supply a custom-designed cable management system for a quay at Marseille.
