American Cruise Lines has successfully completed the sea trials of its first new ship of the year in Chesapeake Bay in the US.

During the tests, the new American Constitution vessel underwent speed trials and an endurance run.

All the safety and manoeuvrability capabilities of the ship were also tested as part of the trials. Representatives of the US Coast Guard, as well as American Cruise Lines, were present on-board the vessel during the trials.

American Cruise Lines Hotel Operations vice-president Paul Taiclet said: “The American Constitution passed with flying colours.

“The ship performed exceptionally well and has a number of enhancements that further American’s tradition of innovation in small ship cruising.”

American Constitution is equipped with new acoustical treatments and vibration dampening systems that quieten the ship even when running at full speed.

“The ship performed exceptionally well and has a number of enhancements that further American’s tradition of innovation in small ship cruising.”

The ship is scheduled to take its first voyage on 18 April 2018 from Baltimore for a ten-night cruise around Chesapeake Bay.

For the rest of the year, it is expected to stay on the East Coast, where it will run a series of journeys from Boston and New York.

Built at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, American Constitution is the sister ship of the company’s American Constellation vessel.

American Constitution is capable of carrying around 175 guests on-board and has various staterooms with private balconies and a variety of lounges.

It will cater to the small ship cruising market and join a fleet of ten ships to be operated by American Cruise Lines this year.
