APM Terminals has announced that it will acquire the container terminal of Aarhus Logistics Center (ALC) in the port of Aarhus in Denmark.

The neighbouring APM Terminals Aarhus will take over the operations and the port areas of ALC, effective from 1 September.

ALC established the terminal in 2017, following which ALC developed a ‘strong activity level’.

Due to the area capacity limitations and lack of prospects for the development of the business, ALC planned to sell the terminal to the Aarhus operations of APM Terminals.

ALC MD Jan Dam Poulsen said: “Aarhus has a central position for the container traffic, and in ALC, we have within a few years attained a strong activity level. However, we estimate that from a long-term perspective, it will be difficult to further develop our activities.

“Consequently, it will also involve challenges to continue servicing our clients in the most appropriate way. By selling the terminal to APM Terminals, we also ensure improved possibilities for the clients.”

The acquisition is expected to provide better operational benefits to the clients such as improved opening hours, reduced necessary interactions, and increased reefer containers capacity and productivity levels.

APM Terminals Nordics MD Dennis Olesen added: “We are acquiring an interesting business with loyal clients who will now gain access to a bigger network, and with that, new development opportunities for their business.

“At the same time, we expect to be able to make the clients’ workday more efficient as administration decreases with just one operator.”

Last month, APM Terminals announced that it will launch a completely digital export management system at Russia’s First Container Terminal (FCT).
