Boluda Towage Europe has ordered two 85t bollard-pull ASD 2813 tugs that adhere to the latest IMO Tier III emission standards from Damen Shipyard Group.

The tugs will commence operations at the Port of Zeebrugge in Belgium as a part of the towage services extended concession. Damen Shipyards expects to deliver the tugs in December.

The new tugs, VB Bolero and VB Rumba, will be added to the fleet of Boluda Towage Europe, which consists of 81 tugs and operates in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and the UK.

The ASD 2813 tugboats are highly manoeuvrable, efficient and environmentally friendly vessels with a modern design.

Due to the operational flexibility, tugs can be used for different operations, including harbour and terminal berthing, escort, firefighting, coastal and offshore towing.

Damen launched two tugs at the Damen Songka shipyard in Vietnam late last month.

Boluda Towage Europe CEO Geert Vandecappelle said: “We are delighted that the new tugs, VB Bolero and VB Rumba, both complying with the most recent IMO Tier III emission standards, will be put to use in December 2020 for the extended concession for towage services in the Belgian Port of Zeebrugge.”

Damen North, West and South Europe sales manager Carlos Gonzalez Martin added: “Damen is happy to extend our cooperation with Boluda by building and delivering two new ASD Tugs 2813 for this project.

“We are convinced that these state-of-the-art Damen ASD Tugs 2813, including FIFI 1 and the Damen Marine NOX Reduction System will be a great addition to the Boluda Europe fleet operations.”

In March last year, Royal Boskalis Westminster and Kotug International signed a letter of intent (LoI) to divest Kotug Smit Towage to Boluda Group.
