Australia’s Port of Brisbane (PBPL) has selected principal contractors for its new A$158m ($114m) Brisbane International Cruise Terminal, which is scheduled to open next year.

The selection followed a tender bid and will see the construction of the terminal over the next few months.

PBPL has selected Brisbane-based marine infrastructure and engineering service provider Brady Marine and Civil to build the wharf.

Australian construction company Hindmarsh was selected to look after the civil works and develop the terminal building.

The Government of Queensland was also involved in the selection process.

Queensland State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Minister Cameron Dick said: “The Port of Brisbane’s A$158m ($114m) Brisbane International Cruise Terminal signals bright horizons for the cruising industry in Queensland.

Initial works on the construction of the wharf have already commenced. ABFI Steel Group have manufactured 105 piles up to 45m-long to support the wharf.

Piling is scheduled to begin to make room for the contractors to start the wharf’s construction.

PBPL is currently relocating around 85,000m³ of surcharge (clean sand). Hindmarsh is set to prepare the site for construction in March and plans to begin works in April.
