Carnival Cruise Line is set to revamp one of its existing vessels, Carnival Triumph, with an investment of around $200m.

The two-month-long renovation is scheduled to take place at a dry dock in Cadiz, Spain, from 1 March.

Following the dry dock renovation, the vessels will be renamed Carnival Sunrise and join Carnival’s Sunshine class of vessels.

Carnival Sunrise is slated to re-enter service in April, with an inaugural season starting from Norfolk, New York, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, US.

Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said: “The introduction of Carnival Sunrise will provide our guests with an array of exciting dining, bar and entertainment choices.

“The new Carnival Sunrise is part of our multi-billion-dollar ship enhancement programme that is transforming our fleet on an unprecedented scale.”

The proposed overhaul includes the redesign of two Captain’s Suites adjacent to the navigational bridge, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and extended balcony grand suites.

“Carnival’s investments are part of an overall plan that is raising the bar on ship amenities and features, itineraries and offshore excursions that our guests are loving.”

All the staterooms of the vessel will be renovated to include island-inspired interiors with bright colours and soothing pastels in line with the company’s Caribbean itineraries.

Carnival is also expected to introduce new food and dining, bar and lounge, as well as open-air fun, relaxation activities and expanded spa and retail spaces.

Carnival Cruise Line chief operating officer Gus Antorcha said: “These new dining spaces and features complement many of Carnival’s signature food and beverage outlets that were added during previous renovations, including Guy’s Burger Joint developed in tandem with Guy Fieri.
