US-based international cruise line Carnival Cruise Line is expanding its fleet with the inclusion of a further two ships by 2023.

In 2023, the company will receive an Excel-class ship that was formerly assigned to its sister brand AIDA Cruises.

In addition, Carnival Cruise Line will take delivery of Costa Magica from another of its European sister brand.

Costa Magica will be subjected to a dry dock overhaul and Carnival-branded conversion.

After being rechristened, the vessel will join the Carnival Cruise Line fleet by 2022.

Furthermore, Carnival’s first Excel-class, liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessel, Mardi Gras, will commence operations from Port Canaveral in July.

The company will receive another Excel-class ship, Carnival Celebration, which will sail from Miami next year.

By 2023, Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet will have expanded to 27 ships, including the aforementioned vessels.

All the new vessels will benefit from environmental enhancements, while also providing new amenities and facilities for guests.

Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said: “We are excited about these additions to our fleet which reflect the strong position that Carnival has established in the US, the pent-up demand we continue to see for cruise vacations and the overall plans by Carnival Corporation to optimise capacity and growth in key markets.

“While our immediate focus is on our restart of guest operations this summer, this is another cause for excitement at Carnival, and we will be announcing more detailed plans about homeports, itineraries and ship names very soon.”

In January, Carnival Cruise Line announced that PortMiami would expand its Terminal F to serve as the homeport of Carnival Celebration.
