Carsten Rehder has agreed to cooperate in a new joint venture (JV) with Singapore-based Thome Group for ship management.

According to the agreement, the new company will oversee the ship management of the fleet owned and operated by Carsten Rehder, which consists of dry bulk, container and multi-purpose vessels.

The new company will be named Thome Shipmanagement Germany and the two companies will act as the shareholders.

Carsten Rehder managing director Thomas Rehder said: “Entering into this collaboration with the Thome Group makes sense as the German and international shipping markets have changed over the last ten years.

“For German shipowners, third-party ship management services have become a more important part of the business. So, we decided that the time was right to integrate our ship management into a larger third-party ship manager.

“Carsten Rehder’s focus on container and MPP business in addition to bulk will complement this profile, especially for European markets. The cooperation with Thome will strengthen our activities.”

Carsten Rehder’s ship management staff will become part of the new JV. The company will continue as the shipowner and commercial manager.

Additionally, Thome Germany will work to procure new ship management opportunities in Europe.

The two companies have agreed to partner for projects of mutual interest.

Thome Group president and CCO Claes Eek Thorstensen said: “Having an office in Germany is part of Thome’s strategy to expand its presence in Europe from a centrally based location, giving us the opportunity to present our full range of services to different market segments.
