Damen Shiprepair Brest (DSBr) has completed renovation work on a 116,000dwt cruise ship operated by P&O Cruises.

The work on the Grand-class cruise ship Ventura was completed following a two-week-long drydocking period at the company’s Brest facility in France.

During the docking, the 290m-long vessel underwent various maintenance works that included the installation of two exhaust gas scrubbers. In order to install the scrubbers, DSBr has designed, built and installed a sea chest.

As part of the newly completed maintenance works, the hull and superstructure was ultra-high-pressure water blasted and then repainted.

Maintenance of the propulsion systems and stabilisers were also carried out.

Ventura has already departed DSBr to Southampton, US, to begin a 12-day cruise to the Canary Islands and Lisbon. The vessel, which is owned by P&O Cruises’ parent company Carnival, can accommodate 3,574 passengers and 1,220 crew.

Damen Ship repair Brest managing director Patrick Renavot said: “All planned work was finished on time and the vessel returned to its busy schedule.

“DSBr has much to offer owners and operators looking for yards capable of meeting their specific needs.”

“As cruise ships expand in terms of both numbers and size, we hope to see our general activity in this sector grow.

“With two dry docks of 420m and 338m respectively, plus a convenient and easily-accessed location for cruise ships entering and leaving the Atlantic, DSBr has much to offer owners and operators looking for yards capable of meeting their specific needs.”

Over the last few years, DSBr has invested substantially in its facilities to add an improved black and grey water disposal capability, as well as a new fire and cooling water supply system.

The yard currently includes owners’ storage, laydown areas and temporary workshops for subcontractors.
