Damen Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam held a keel-laying ceremony in Poland for two new beam trawlers for Rederij Devan and Rederij Long Ships.

While the new beam trawler for Rederij Devan will be christened as the Z21 Avanti, its sister-ship for Rederij Long Ships will be called Z91 Franson.

Based on Maaskant’s BT3808 design, the vessels will feature specifications that include the maximum permitted length and gross tonnage set by the Belgian Maritime Inspectorate.

Furthermore, the basic design has been altered in cooperation with SIP Marine to cut down fuel consumption and increase bollard pull.

Maaskant’s commercial manager Jeroen van den Berg said: “For both the Belgian and Dutch fishing fleets, becoming more efficient through innovation is an important issue. To remain competitive, they need to minimise their operating costs in every way possible, and at Maaskant, we continuously re-evaluate every aspect of the design and fitting out of our fishing boat designs to deliver just that.

“The updated Damen BT3808 beam trawler, in particular, offers owners and operators many advantages in today’s challenging commercial fishing environment.”

Meanwhile, Damen Shipyards Group and Winander Leisure signed the Protocol of Delivery and Acceptance to officially deliver MV Swift vessel.

The vessel will be operated by Windermere Lake Cruises Limited.

Damen has built the vessel inland on location at Windermere in the Lake District National Park in the UK.

In the last four decades, the company has delivered more than 1,000 of vessels through the Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC), which enables the construction of Damen vessels at non-Damen locations.

It is considered to be the first DTC project that the company has conducted in the UK.

MV Swift was constructed by the company in a car park on the lakeside owned by Winander Leisure.

In August, Damen Marine Components (DMC) completed the delivery of two large 19A nozzles for the Margiris fish trawler of Parragliet & Van der Plas.
