DNV GL has secured a contract to classify the passenger sailing ship Sea Cloud Spirit built by Metalships and Docks in Spain.

The vessel, which has been ordered by Sea Cloud Cruises, is designed to meet the increasing demand from independent travellers as well as the charter market, primarily in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

Metalships and Docks managing director Alberto Iglesias said: “Sea Cloud Spirit will offer a new level of comfort to sailing cruise passengers. In addition to beautiful views from private balconies, it will have the first elevator ever to be installed on a large sailing ship that will connect its five different decks.”

The 138m-long Sea Cloud Spirit vessel will be equipped with 69 outside cabins and 25 of them will have a private balcony.

With 85 crew members on-board, the vessel will be capable of carrying up to 136 passengers.

The interior of Sea Cloud Spirit will be designed by the German company Partner Ship Design. The ship is scheduled to sail next year.
