Dream Cruises has selected SES Networks’ Signature Cruise Solution to provide its passenger ship fleet with ultra-fast, low latency and fibre-like connectivity service.

Catering to the Asian luxury market, the passenger ship fleet comprises Genting Dream, World Dream and Explorer Dream.

Guests and crew members of the new Explorer Dream will be able to experience SES-powered connectivity onboard the 75,000 gross-tonne (gt) ship, which can accommodate 2,000 passengers.

The connectivity solution will allow guests to use WeChat, shop on Taobao and stream high-resolution videos without interruptions. Guests will also be able to share photos and videos across social media in real-time.

Explorer Dream will have its homeports in Tianjin and Shanghai, as well as Auckland and Sydney later this year.

SES Networks’ solution will also be provided to Genting Dream in September. This will complete the fleet-wide implementation following the launch of SES Networks’ managed service onboard World Dream.

Dream Cruises president Thatcher Brown said: “Today’s cruise passengers demand excellent connectivity even when they are travelling on the high seas.

“As part of our efforts to provide our guests with the best possible services and amenities on board our ships, we partnered with SES Networks because of their high-speed capability to deliver a terrestrial broadband-like internet experience in some of the most challenging of conditions.”

To ensure network resilience, the Signature Cruise Solution combines low latency of its O3b medium-Earth orbit (MEO) satellite constellation with an end-to-end service, supported by geostationary (GEO) fleet for network resilience.

“A Dream Cruise has the ability to deliver inspirational voyages at sea that create memories to last a lifetime.”
