Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has selected GoodFuels to deliver biofuel bunkers for its MR tanker M/T Pacific Beryl.

The vessel was built in 2010 and has a deadweight tonnage of 47,377.

The bunkering successfully took place on 9 October in the Netherlands, which adheres to the company’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Policy.

The policy calls for the use of alternative marine fuels to reduce the carbon footprint of the industry.

GoodFuels delivered a residual-fuel equivalent biofuel oil (BFO) to EPS.

The performance of the fuel will be tested and analysed on the MR tanker and on other classes of ships managed by EPS.

EPS CEO Cyril Ducau said: “We are fully committed to investing in and taking action to lower our carbon footprint today.

“At EPS, we believe that sustainability begins with accountability, which is why we are taking a mixed marine fuel approach towards reducing our emissions. We are already implementing LNG and LPG across 30 of our newbuilds, but we need to look at other options for our existing fleet.

“Biofuels such as the advanced, sustainable biofuels supplied by GoodFuels provides us with a solution that matches our values and sustainability agenda.”

GoodFuels chief operating officer Bart Hellings added: “Together, we are showing the shipping industry and the world that sustainable solutions to reduce the environmental impact of operations already exist on the market – and that advanced marine biofuels will play an important part in the future alternative fuel mix.”

In April, tanker shipping company Stena Bulk and GoodFuels completed the trial with an MR tanker that used 100% sustainable marine biofuel.

The testing of the BFO was conducted on Stena Immortal.
