Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri has signed a preliminary collaboration agreement with Cassa depositi e prestiti (CDP) and Snam for the development of port facilities in the country.

Under the terms of the agreement, the parties will work to identify and implement medium-term strategic projects to support the innovation of port facilities.

They also agreed to collaborate on the development of sustainable technologies for maritime transport aligned with the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan Proposal (PNIEC) provisions.

Fincantieri and Snam will organise workshops to share technical skills with the financial support of CDP.

CDP CEO Fabrizio Palermo said: “Under this CDP agreement, Fincantieri and Snam will share their knowledge and technical expertise to make a concrete contribution to the competitiveness of maritime transport, a key sector for both the Italian and wider European economies.”

The agreement encompasses building necessary infrastructure at the ports and associated facilities to support the supply, transformation and use of liquefied natural gas (LNG). It also involves the development of maritime transport systems utilising new technologies and fuel sources.
