China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou has received a contract from Swedish shipping firm Furetank for the construction of a new dual-fuel tanker.
The 17,999 deadweight tonnage (dwt) vessel is the 11th in the company’s Vinga series.
Furetank stated that it “owns four of the vessels already delivered and commercially operates all.”
Featuring dual-fuel capability, the Vinga vessels operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) or liquefied biogas (LBG).
Designed with a battery hybrid solution, the tankers include several features designed to cut down the use of fuel and energy, as well as the emissions of CO₂, sulphur oxide, nitrogen oxide and hazardous particles.
The new vessel will be fully fitted to operate on cargo pumps with 6.6kV high voltage shore power.
It will have a cargo capacity of 20,306m³ in 12 epoxy-coated cargo tanks, as well as a cargo handling system and ice class 1A.
The ship will also feature a ‘flexible’ cargo pump and line arrangement to carry out safe cargo operations with shorter port turnaround times.
The vessel’s expected delivery from the shipyard is in July 2024.
In addition, the agreement has an option for more vessels.

In January, the Yangzhou shipyard won a contract for the construction of the ninth vessel in the Vinga series, which is expected to be delivered in January 2024.
