Hong Kong-based Kerry Logistics Network’s member company Globalink has signed a memorandum of understanding with Georgia’s Anaklia City to jointly develop the Anaklia Deep Sea Port and Special Economic Zone (Anaklia SEZ).

As part of the deal, Globalink will provide its expertise in the fields of logistics and multimodal freight.

Once complete, the Anaklia Port will be the first is deepwater facility in Georgia with the capacity to handle up to 10,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) vessels.

It is set to become one of the biggest ports in the Black Sea region handling a number of cargoes such as containers, dry bulk, liquid bulk and others.

Due to be opened by 2020, the Anaklia Port and Anaklia SEZ will include logistics and industrial parks, with complete access to rail and road networks of Georgia and its neighbouring countries.

Strategically situated along the shortest trade route between China and Europe in the Belt and Road network, Anaklia currently allows the landlocked Central Asian and Caucasian regions to move their cargo.

Anaklia Port is currently under development by the Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC), which comprises TBC Holding, SSA Marine, Conti International, among others.

It will be developed and operated by ADC under a 52-year concession from the Government of Georgia.
