Hong Kong-based Hutchison Ports has acquired a 50% stake in the Netherlands’ TMA Logistics for an undisclosed sum.

TMA is primarily involved in the operation of various general cargo terminals. It also offers warehousing, shipping, logistics and project cargo services at three sites in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and one in Antwerp, Belgium.

"The acquisition of a 50% stake in TMA Logistics complements both our existing operations in Amsterdam and the activities of Hutchison Logistics."

Additionally, the company provides a range of activities at Hutchison Ports Amsterdam, previously known as Amsterdam Container Terminal.

Hutchison Ports executive director Clemence Cheng said: “The acquisition of a 50% stake in TMA Logistics complements both our existing operations in Amsterdam and the activities of Hutchison Logistics.

“We have developed a good working relationship with TMA over the last three years, which has brought a range of operations to Amsterdam Container Terminal (ACT).

“Together with TMA, we will maximise the benefits of operating through Hutchison Ports’ network to develop new business opportunities in areas including short-sea container traffic, RoRo, vehicle handling, and general and project cargo.”

ACT currently features three berths with total length of 1,015m and depth of 15m.

The terminal is slated to boost its capacity by opening a new sea lock at the entrance to the North Sea Canal by 2019.

TMA Logistics managing director Gerben Matroos said: “With this step we have the opportunity to grow sustainably in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp range.

“With the worldwide network of Hutchison Ports, we are now able to expand our activities substantially.”

TMA further noted that Hutchison Ports’ North Sea Canal terminals situated in Velsen and Amsterdam are especially suitable for offshore activities related to oil, gas and wind energy.
