ICTSI subsidiary South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) has accepted the delivery of three hybrid rubber-tyred gantries (RTGs) in Lae, Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The equipment is part of the ICTSI’s strategy to strengthen and improve the overall operational efficiency at PNG’s container terminal.

ICTSI South Pacific CEO Anil Singh said: “We are very proud of this order. It is the result of our commitment to innovation and proven performance around the world, and it will further strengthen our presence in Papua New Guinea.
“Technology is a central part of our terminal operations, and investment is being placed in training to grow competency and skills because it is people who drive the technology.”
SPICT has invested more than PGK15.6m ($4.6m) in order to stay ahead of its 2022 commitments as well as to be 50% above the initially agreed outlay on operational efficiency improvements.
The newly delivered RTGs have a lifting capacity of 41t and can run on diesel as well as electric power.

By GlobalDataIt has been designed to stack one over five containers high and six containers wide, including truck roadway.
The RTG’s are equipped with new technologies such as active load control, stack collision prevention, truck guiding system and a truck trailer anti-lifting system.
It also features auto-steering with a container positioning interface to the terminal operating system.
Once commissioned, the new RTGs will be automation-ready.
