Incat Crowther has secured a contract to design a new low-wash, high-speed catamaran ferry, which is slated to be operated by Twin City Liner on the Danube River between Vienna, Austria, and Bratislava, Slovakia.

The 39m-long ferry will be built by Wight Shipyard.

A team of Incat Crowther personnel observed the operational conditions on the Danube as part of the design process, before designing the minimal wake / wash, low-air-draft hull form accordingly in order to ensure its suitability for restricted waters filled with active currents and debris.

“The catamaran’s hull is designed to be highly efficient and operate with a level trim, which will allow it to travel at a maximum speed of 38k.”

The catamaran’s hull is designed to be highly efficient and operate with a level trim, which will allow it to travel at a maximum speed of 38k and a reliable service speed of 32k.

It will be powered by a set of four Scania DI16 main engines capable of generating 809kw of thrust each, which will be used to drive Rolls Royce S40-3 water jets.

Large hatches will also be added over the main engines and gearboxes to improve maintenance access.

In addition, the catamaran will feature custom-designed interceptors to improve overall performance.

According to Incat Crowther, the vessel’s structural design features advanced engineering to reduce weight without compromising quality.

A special anchoring system has been built to help the vessel dock in high current conditions.

The vessel will be equipped with a main cabin with seating arrangements for up to 185 passengers, as well as a kiosk to offer various snacks and refreshments, and other features.

Its external seating will have provision for 29 passengers, while the aft of the elevated wheelhouse’s interior seating will be able to accommodate 35 passengers.

The vessel will also have space to house up to 12 bikes on the aft deck.
