Incat Crowther has released further details with regards to a second catamaran that will be operated by Rhode Island Fast Ferry (RIFF).

Currently under construction at Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding in Massachusetts, US, the ferry will expand the capabilities of Ava Pearl, the first vessel of the series delivered in 2012.

The ferry will be designed to carry 320 passengers, while allowing RIFF to meet increased passenger demand and add a new route to its operation.

It will be equipped with large boarding areas to lead the passengers directly into the main deck cabin. Stairs will be installed to connect the upper deck.

The vessel will feature Incat Crowther’s ‘S bow’ hulls and will be powered by two MTU 12V4000 M64 engines to have a loaded service speed of 27k.

Revealing the details of the ferry, Incat Crowther said in a statement: “The main deck cabin seats 142 passengers facing forward throughout the centre, and at tables adjacent to the windows. In addition, there are four wheelchair spaces.

“The ferry will be designed to carry 320 passengers, while allowing RIFF to meet increased passenger demand.”

“At the aft end of the cabin are three toilets, including one that is fully accessible.

“Ahead of this is a large bar and shop. The forward end of the cabin has large doors to access the foredeck and forward boarding area.”

The ferry’s upper passenger deck will also be divided into two zones, including a three-sided enclosed forward zone and seating capacities for 61 passengers. The aft portion of the cabin will include 74 open-air seats.

The roof deck will be designed to feature 18 seats to offer capacity for 60 passengers for external viewing.

Among other features, the vessel will provide additional luggage storage on the foredeck.
